The brief

A red brick detached house in Enfield EN3 the owners wanted to read as contemporary rather than dated — without extending, re-roofing or changing a single window. Render was the one change that would do it.

The work

The house was fully scaffolded, the brickwork prepared and a base coat applied with mesh reinforcement across every elevation, carefully worked around the bay, the reveals and the eaves detail. A white silicone topcoat went on over the top, with a dark plinth run around the base and bell-cast beads at the changes of level so water throws clear of the wall rather than tracking down it.

The result

A crisp white house with a dark base and black joinery — the same building, reading completely differently from the street.
