The short version

We use no advertising cookies and no third-party trackers. Nothing on this site follows you around the internet, and we do not share your browsing with advertising networks. We do use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful — the detail is below.

What is actually stored on your device

Google Analytics

Google Analytics sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_<id>, which last up to two years. They give your browser a random identifier so we can tell a returning visitor from a new one, and see which pages people actually read and where they arrived from.

We use this only to understand how the site is used — which pages are worth keeping, which are not, and whether people can find what they came for. We have not enabled Google Signals, advertising personalisation or audience sharing, so your visit is not used to target you with adverts. Google processes this data as our processor; their own description is at policies.google.com.

You can opt out entirely with Google’s official browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, by clearing your browsing data, or by using your browser’s private mode. Nothing on the site breaks if you do.

Calculator selections

If you use the loft or extension cost calculator, your selections are saved in your browser’s local storage under loft-calc-v1 and ext-calc-v1. This is so that if you close the page and come back, you do not have to answer all the questions again. These are strictly necessary for the tool you asked to use, so no consent is required for them under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.

Site preference

A single cookie named preview_bypass may be set if you have been given a link to view the site before a change goes live. It is only used by us during development and expires on its own. Ordinary visitors never receive it.

How to clear them

Clearing your browsing data in your browser’s settings removes both. The site will work exactly the same afterwards — the calculator will simply start from a blank form again.

Server logs

Separately from anything stored on your device, our host records standard server information for each request — IP address, browser type, page requested and time. This keeps the site running and protects it from abuse. It is not a cookie, it is not used to identify you, and it is not combined with anything you send us through a form. If this changes

If we ever add advertising or remarketing tools to this site, we will update this page before they are switched on, and ask for your consent first.
